Installation Guide

System Requirements

miniTab supports the following browsers:

• Chrome Browser v88 and above
• Microsoft Edge v88 and above
• Other Chromium-based browsers

Note

miniTab is developed based on Manifest V3 and requires modern browsers that support this standard.

Installation Methods

Method 1: Chrome Web Store Installation (Recommended)

1. Open Chrome browser
2. Visit Chrome Web Store
3. Search for "miniTab" or "Smart New Tab"
4. Click "Add to Chrome" button
5. Click "Add extension" in the confirmation dialog

Tip

Installing from the official store ensures automatic updates and security.

Method 2: Developer Mode Installation

If you want to install a development or custom version:

1. Download the extension package
2. Extract to a local directory
3. Open Chrome browser, go to chrome://extensions/
4. Turn on "Developer mode" toggle in the top right
5. Click "Load unpacked"
6. Select the extracted extension directory

Note

Extensions installed via developer mode require manual update management.

Post-Installation Setup

1. Permission Confirmation

After installation, miniTab will request the following permissions:

• New Tab Override: Replace the default new tab page
• Storage Permission: Save your settings and bookmark data
• Geolocation: Get weather information (optional)
• Search Permission: Use default search engine

2. First Launch

After installation:

1. Open a new tab, you'll see the miniTab interface
2. The system will automatically detect your location to display weather
3. Click the ⚙️ settings button in the top right for personalization

Verify Installation

After successful installation, you should see:

• ✅ New tab page replaced by miniTab
• ✅ Interface showing weather, search bar, and bookmarks area
• ✅ Settings button ⚙️ in the top right corner

Common Installation Issues

Issue: Extension doesn't work after installation

Solutions:

1. Refresh browser or restart
2. Check if extension is enabled in chrome://extensions/
3. Confirm no other new tab extensions are conflicting

Issue: Cannot access settings panel

Solutions:

1. Ensure extension has fully loaded
2. Try refreshing the new tab page
3. Check for JavaScript errors (F12 developer tools)

Issue: Weather information not displaying

Solutions:

1. Check if location permission is granted
2. Confirm network connection is stable
3. Manually input city name in settings

Uninstallation

If you need to uninstall miniTab:

1. Go to chrome://extensions/
2. Find the miniTab extension
3. Click "Remove" button
4. Confirm uninstallation

Data Retention

After uninstallation, locally stored settings and bookmark data will be cleared. Please backup manually if you want to keep the data.
